Revolutionary War Design: Reimagining the South Carolina Lowcountry 250
3 Min Read
As the state of South Carolina prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, ADVYON is incredibly excited to play a role in sharing this historic milestone. This anniversary is a massive opportunity for our state to showcase the rich history of the Revolutionary War and the profound impact it had on the Lowcountry.
Our long-standing partnership with South Carolina Lowcountry allowed us to take a deep dive into this legacy. Because of our established relationship and our reputation for upscale, custom website design, we were trusted to bring the Lowcountry 250 website to life.
The Vision: An Immersive First-Person Journey
We knew from the start that we didn’t want a “cookie-cutter” site. We wanted something fun, exciting, and entirely different.

AI-Powered Cinematic Video
To set the tone, we utilized cutting-edge Generative AI to create a custom header video. Instead of using generic stock footage seen on other county sites, we developed a first-person perspective that makes visitors feel as though they are standing in the Lowcountry during the 1700s.

A “Living” Custom Map
The centerpiece of the home page is a custom-coded map based on actual 18th-century cartography of the region. We used authentic historical names for the areas and precisely pinpointed the locations of battles and skirmishes. This interactive map serves as a visual directory, linking visitors directly to the stories and sites of the Revolution.

The Details: Crafting the “Puzzle Pieces”
At ADVYON, we believe excellence is in the details. We designed this site “down to the buttons” to ensure a premium, tactile feel.
Bespoke Textures
To maintain the historical theme, we pulled the physical texture from the ancient map and applied it to the website’s buttons. We also integrated “ripped paper” textures on the inner page sections to evoke the feeling of handling a historic document.

The Interactive Timeline
We designed a chronological journey using bold imagery and “Big History” markers, making complex eras digestible and visually engaging.

The Result: Simple Navigation, Powerful Information
The biggest win for this project is its usability. Despite the massive amount of information regarding biographies, skirmishes, and battle data, the site never feels overwhelming.
Easy Exploration:
We prioritized “Smart People Processes” by integrating intuitive search bars in the main menu and on specific directory pages.
Connecting People to Places:
We have made it easy for users to find and visit actual historical sites that still exist today, connecting the digital experience to the real world.
SEO & Speed:
Built with a “Ready-to-Work” backend, the site is optimized for search engines and high-speed performance, ensuring that the history of the Lowcountry is accessible to everyone.
This project proves that technical competency and creative flair can live in the same space. We are proud to support the South Carolina Lowcountry in preserving and sharing the stories that shaped our home.
